Election 2026: Making Your Vote Count
Pam Crone
Voting is always important. In these bleak Trump years, we have even greater clarity of its significance. In Washington State, we have taken for granted many aspects of voting. In the past, we haven’t had to think much about the details and logistics. We were certain that our vote when cast would be counted.
Our youngest and newest voters have only ever voted by mail. We have trusted the post office to deliver our ballots to the county election officials to be counted. We thought we knew the rules, but now they have been upended by an administration determined to disrupt and sow confusion in the voting process.
We have a new reality and must learn a new voting etiquette
1. Vote immediately when your ballot arrives by mail.
2. Deposit your ballot in an official county ballot drop box not the post office.
3. Track your ballot. Make sure it has been received and counted. https:// voter.votewa.gov/portal2023/login.aspx
What’s At Stake In Washington State
This November, we have critical matters and issues on our ballot. First, we are electing five justices to the Washington State Supreme Court. The new high court will decide issues critical to the well-being of all Washingtonians in the coming years. The decisions they make will have a lasting impact on all of us.
We urge you to visit https://www.washingtonsupremecourt.org. This is a great at-a-glance reference to the supreme court races. You will be able to find the current candidates, how they did in the primaries, and endorsements from those who are permitted to make endorsements.
PSARA is opposed to all three initiatives on the ballot. All three handiwork of Brian Heywood and his “Let’s Go Washington” crowd. Two of those initiatives unleash a full-on attack on young people, I-638 and I-001. I-638 discriminates against all girls, especially transgender girls. If passed it would conflict with our state’s anti-discrimination laws and subject all girls to harmful medical sex verification procedures before they are allowed to participate in school sports. I-001 would endanger and harm our youth by undermining current student privacy protections, preventing them from seeking counseling and necessary health care.
The third initiative, I-645 would roll back the Millionaires Tax. Repealing the Millionaires Tax would remove revenue already dedicated to expanding the working families tax credit, investing in childcare and early learning, supporting K-12 education and healthcare, providing free school meals, and reducing taxes for many small businesses.
In Summary
#1 Do some easy research at https://www.washingtonsupremecourt.org/ to find endorsements from trusted sources.
#2 JUST SAY NO! VOTE NO ON ALL THREE INITIATIVES, I-638, I-001, I-645.
#3 Vote early AND deposit your ballot in a ballot drop box. Do NOT rely on the post office.
