AI: The Universal Labor Replacement Machine

Bobby Righi

Artificial Intelligence as it is now being developed by Amazon, Microsoft, Anthropic, xAI, and Open AI is rocketing full speed ahead with trillions in investments. Each company wants to be the first to build something they call AGI or Artificial General Intelligence. They say it will change life as we know it and solve all of our problems. Or maybe kill us all - no one is sure. But it is clear that the billionaires developing this with no input from people or the government plan to keep on increasing their wealth and one of the best ways to do it is to end the need for workers.

The labor replacement machine is well on its way – office workers, writers, musicians, and even scientists and computer programmers who write the code that creates AI are losing their jobs. The AI programs and computer power are growing fast and the machines are getting more capable and expanding their reach into more fields.

Over the past month the billionaire developers of this costly and evil plan have been shocked and shaken by just how fast their AI “agents” are growing. The latest models can code, make new AI models, and repair their own bugs and mistakes, a phenomenon called “recursive self -improvement”. AI “agents” have hacked the internet and in July, contacted other agents in a swarm that got through tough security protocols of Hugging Face, another AI developer. OpenAI knew nothing about what their “agent” was doing until they were notified by Hugging Face. Security researchers now report that AI “agents” from other companies have hacked other sites and have stolen computer code and credentials.

This is more than the billionaires bargained for – oops, maybe they can be replaced, too! Because of these “escapes” and rogue actions, quite a few top-level AI developers have quit their jobs to work on monitoring AI. Some top AI researchers claim that we are heading into chaos and the possible extinction of humanity in this decade. Bluster and hyperbole? Maybe. But, the developers no longer know what code is in the programs or what it does. Anthropic and OpenAI are now calling for guardrails and self-monitoring protocols within the industry. All of this has happened with no public knowledge or input. Around the country resistance to AI and data centers is growing and here in Washington there is a statewide and very active group called AI Resistance (AIR). AIR is made up of tech workers and people across Washington who are fighting the building of data centers and the use of land, water, clean air, and energy without our full knowledge or permission. There are now 130 data centers in Washington and many more are planned. AIR will be working to pass a moratorium on building data centers in the state until regulations are put in place.

AIR has also developed “The People’s Bill of Rights on AI” demanding fairness, privacy, transparency, and accountability. Law and regulations must be enacted immediately to establish minimum guardrails to slow the AI industry down and make it accountable to our communities. The industry is now saying something like this as well but that is an attempt to stay in control. It is important that we take on this task and not leave it to the AI billionaires to self monitor and keep us in the dark. Look at the AIR website for more details: waair.net and get ready to take legislative action with PSARA's Government Relations Committee.
