Legislative Session 2027
The Government Relations Committee Wants to Hear From You

Pam Crone

Yes, it REALLY is that time again. The PSARA Government Relations Committee (GRC) is starting the process of identifying key budget and policy priorities in preparation for the Washington State 2027 Legislative Session, commencing January 11. The 2027 session is a long session, lasting 105 days. There are no carryover bills from the 2026 session. All bills will have new bill numbers.

Budget: The 2027 session begins a two-year operating budget cycle. Revenue forecast projections indicate a deficit in the state budget for the 2027-2029 biennium. Spending is outstripping current revenue, so the state could be facing drastic budget cuts. Though the Legislature passed a Millionaires Tax in 2026, collections won’t begin until 2029. Initiative 645, a measure that would repeal the Millionaires Tax, will be on the November ballot. PSARA says vote no on Initiative 645.

Policy: The GRC has been soliciting a legislative wish list from our Race and Gender Equity and Climate and Environmental Justice Committees. Now it’s your turn. We ask you to both identify issues of interest to you, and, also, how to prioritize them in our work. Topics include Healthcare, Housing and Homelessness, Climate and Environment, and Equity.

The survey also invites you to consider your anticipated level of engagement. We hope you will attend our virtual legislative conference January 7 and a Lobby Day, date TBD. There will be alerts asking you to contact your legislators.

Look for the survey in your inboxes around September 1. Deadline for completion will be September 28. Democracy is not a spectator sport.

Please complete the survey. Your voice matters.

Pam Crone is Chair of PSARA's Government Relations Committee (GRC).
